It is now known and confirmed that 2 anti-government protesters were killed. A police officer was also killed. The protests started when Mr. Ronsad Malonda was named president of the CENI - National Elections Commission for the 2023 polls. His appointment was approve by the country's National Assembly but to date, the president has yet to sign off the appointment of Mr. Malonda.
Supporters of Mr. Tshiekedi have repeatedly accused Malonda of being pro-Kabila the former president whose party has majority seats in parliament. The former has influence and political control over Mr. Malonda. Reports say Malonda is a sympathizer of Kabila's party.
For the past months there have been disunity and confusion in the coalition government.
A UDPS opposition protester was heard shouting "They want to impose Malonda on us to block our chances of in the 2023 election. They want to return Kabeli to power."
