ProtestBlog.org: Mid-November 2020, Pro-Democracy demonstrators in Thailand have adopted a new and highly effective form of defense against police water cannons — giant inflatable ducks, which work much better than umbrellas to protect protesters.
New images from the unrest in Bangkok, where protesters are pushing for a shakeup of the nation’s monarchy and leadership, show demonstrators fending off jets of water by ducking behind these bright yellow balloons — which resemble massive rubber duckie bath toys.
Mostly students and their allies, the protest movmement has gained a lot of steam recently, in an age of protest, and at a time when discontent is simmering against the monarchy and their allies in the military. The student-led democracy movement continue to put a lot of pressure on Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to resign and to make Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn more accountable, if not abolishing the monarchy or making it entirely ceremonial.
Prayuth, a former general, seized power in a military coup in 2014 and holds almost ultimate power, which he shares with the Thai Senate, which also has currrent members that have not been elected.
November 18, Clashes with police continue throughout the day with more than 40 protesters reported injured in the last 24 hours or so.
