Lukashenko Clings to Power in Belarus, Putin Asserts his Dictatorial Grip on Power through Proxies

Updated: Nov 19, 2021 8/28/20 Putin threatens to send Russian troops to Belarus to quell unrest against the dictator of 26 years, Lukashenko. Putin flexes his muscles with frequency and this is an especially pertinent example that will have ramifications for some time to come.

Massive protests involving hundreds of thousands of protesters continue in Minsk, and other cities throughout Belarus, as the opposition also shows no sign of backing down. With building support from the EU, the opposition is not alone and counting especially on Germany to find some kind of common ground that will avoid continued torture and violence.
