Australia's Indigenous and Allies Protest Australia Day, January 26, renaming it "Invasion Day".

Updated: Nov 19, 2021

ProtestBlog.org: January 26 is Australia Day, a national holiday commemorating the arrival of the first British ships to the island in 1778. This year, it was met with a huge protest, labelled Invasion Day, Australia’s indigenous people along with a large number of non-indigenous Australians. The protesters are simply asking that the date be changed, so that the celebration could become more inclusive, a celebration of diversity rather than conquest.

The air was festive, however, and as well as a protest against a traditional holiday, it was also a celebration of indigenous culture, dignity, and pride, an authentic celebration of diversity and inclusivity, a celebration of all things indigenous in Australia, a morally uplifting and wholesome experience of redemption and revindication.
